40 dead in fighting in Afghanistan:reports

More than 40 people are reported to have been killed in fierce fighting in southern Afghanistan between local police forces and Taliban fighters
Thousands of British troops are deployed in the region, the Helmand province, but they have not been involved in the fighting.
There has also been violence in Kandahar, in which 18 militants and a woman Canadian soldier were killed.
A suicide bomber also attacked a convoy of foreign troops in the western city of Heart, killing himself and a US soldier.
